The recovery list, the recovery kit and the file-list copy now describe themselves: which release wrote them, which program opens them, where to get it, and which network holds the files.

These three files are kept on your own device, not uploaded, so a few hundred extra bytes cost nothing and buy the answers somebody needs when they are holding one of them years later with no site to visit. Each one now records the release that wrote it, the name and address of the recovery program, and the address of the document that describes the format; the encrypted part also records which network and which chain the stored pieces are on, which a storage address alone never said, so the recovery program had to try both and a wrong guess looked the same as missing bytes. Each file in a list now carries the date it was created and the date it last changed, and the recovery program puts those dates back on the files it writes. None of this changed a format version, because every field can be absent without changing what anything else means — and the plaintext outside the encryption still says nothing about what a list holds.

Two documents that had gone out of date were corrected: the entry guide pointed at files that no longer exist, and the briefing listed two shipped features as missing.
