1The wallet that pays for the free trial is now watched: if it runs low, cannot be read, or can no longer back what this week promises, an alarm leaves this machine.
NMTS keeps one wallet on chain: it pays the gas for the signatures NMTS itself makes when credit-funded storage is registered, and it is what the weekly free trial is sized against. Until today nothing watched it, which mattered most for a failure that makes no noise — when the service that reads the chain cannot be reached, every credit path closes on purpose, so the pages keep working, files stay where they are, the free trial simply stops existing, and nobody was told. Three things are watched now: gas running low, which the chain service had been reporting on every read with nothing reading it; the wallet not having been read for six hours, which is thirty-six failed attempts rather than a bad moment; and the wallet no longer being able to buy what this week's trial promises, measured against the number recorded when that week was decided. The alarm goes to a watcher outside this machine, because a machine that is the problem cannot report itself — and this tells us, it does not top the wallet up.
