The daily check on NMTS's own numbers now looks at a whole finished day, and two of its questions cannot be trained into silence.

NMTS publishes counts of files and bytes on its statistics page, and a machine reads those numbers once a day at 06:00 UTC to see whether anything looks wrong. First, the check read today — a day still in progress — so a threshold meant for a day actually covered the six hours since midnight, and it now judges the last complete day. Second, a check that compares against the recent normal learns its normal from the very thing it is watching, so there is now one question with no notion of normal in it: whether a day’s downloads exceed four times everything NMTS is holding. Third, one storage-network object holds one piece of data, so records showing one object carrying two is a contradiction worth a person’s attention — though none of this proves the bytes are on the storage network, and the alarm reports no figures.
