The public figures are worked out once an hour instead of once per visitor.

Two pages anyone can open — the figures page and the service-health check — recomputed the live totals from scratch on every request. That computation walks every file row asking three questions, one of them a pattern match no index helps with. They are now worked out once an hour and shared. Nothing you see changes except that a figure can be up to an hour old, and it is never used for anything you are about to act on.
